Short term goals of the program

Students will be provided with a supportive environment to learn effective communication skills

Students will learn through direct teaching methods that accommodate their learning differences

Improve interpersonal communication

Improve ability to interpret non-verbal cues

 

Long term goals of the program

Improved self-confidence

Reduced negative behaviour interactions

Improved interpersonal skills

Improved ability to create and maintain healthy peer relationships

Create effective problem solving techniques

Create more positive interactions at school which will lead to improved academic success

Improved ability to effectively communicate needs

 

Managing Challenging Behaviours

This workshop will introduce parents to strategies that will help them observe, understand and manage challenging behaviours at home. This is an interactive workshop that will provide parents with a new understanding of how children use behaviours as a method of communication and sometimes as a plea for help.

This workshop will be offered on April 20, 2010 from 7-9pm at OPMT 2530 Sixth Line Unit#9 Oakville.  Please register for this workshop by contacting Charlene Abrahams at

Social Skills Programming -Direct Teaching of Social Skills for Children with Learning Differences

This workshop is for parents and caregivers and will provide an overview of some of the activities used in the CHOICES social skills program. Parents will be provided with strategies and take home lessons that can be used to assist with the development of effective communication skills and relationship building.  This workshop will include small group discussions, interactive activities and role-play. This workshop will be offered on May 4th, 2010 from 7-9pm at OPMT 2530 Sixth Line Unit#9 Oakville.  Please register for this workshop by contacting Charlene Abrahams at
